Hi Rachel,

This blog is a great way to post your thoughts and document your progress/process for your independant study. Keep this up as it will prove to be worth the effort.

As for the photographs, 1-5 are absolutely stunning. They provide great insight into the complexities of such plants. Moreover, they explore all of the formal elements that we discuss in drawing class- ie. composition, color, form, value, spacial relationships, textural differences, etc.

While I am mostly interested in the first series of photos (1-5), the second grouping offers a pretty confident exploration of color and line. As for the investigation into these specific plants, I'm not sure if it is deep enough (yet). Thus, they seem to work best as photos that explore various formal qualities- especially color and line.

Next mp., I would like to see you continue to explore the seasons as they change and reveal their unique nuances. Ideally, I would like to see you explore this through a multi-media approach- photography, drawing, possibly video. Each discipline offers a different result which may ultimately expand your approach and make it more complex and specific to your project.

Anyway, I changed your grade from a C to an A-. In part, this is due to your efforts through the final haul. Lets try to keep this momentum going through the last 3 marking periods!
